Extra Prayers Needed!

The Ballard's could really use some extra prayers today - it's been a rough one.

An ultrasound was done today of Finn's heart - a small hole was detected -this is common in premies and often correctable. Unfortunately the meds have some unpleaseant side effects (not sure exactly what they are). The other option would be surgery.

Finn also has developed an infection. He is currently on antibiotics. Not sure of the source - UTI, respiratory, blood.

Needless to say Blaine and Allison are having a pretty rough day.

Fight on Baby Finn - you have to fight!

Blaine gets to hold Finn and Alli touches him....

And then they hurried up and put him back in his isolette (Finn's house).
Fight on Finn!

12 inches

Blaine was able to stick his finger into Finn's "little house" yesterday. He said that Finn's entire hand fit on just the very tip of his finger.

Finn is being given a lipid solution (fat) and baby gatorade. He did take milk yesterday. Now we will hope for a BM! That will ensure his entire digestive tract is working.

Finn's veins are so tiny and fragile so they are holding off as long as possible before they try to insert the PICC line again. He does have a large IV in and hopefully that will hold up until his veins develop a little more. He needs blood and platelet transfusions because he does not yet have enough bone marrow to make his own red blood cells and the PICC Line would sure make this easier on his little body.

Finn is a little fighter - keep up the well wishes and prayers - they are working.

Slater and Ballard Grandparents both arrived in Utah last night - I'm sure that was a welcome sight for Blaine and Alli.

Fight on Finn! We love you all!

1 pound 2-3 oz

Yesterday's update:

Finn's blood pressure medication was D/C'd - good news.

They tried to insert a PICC line and were unable to. They did get a large bore IV into him though. It took about 2 1/2 hours but he did well. This will enable them to get meds into him without constantly having to poke him and look for veins - since this is so difficult to do.

Another ultrasound of his brain is scheduled for sometime this week I think - routine procedure to check for hemorrhaging.

They are going to try to give Finn some breast milk and see if he can digest it - he needs to put the pounds on!

Finn continues to hold his own and fight on!

Blaine and Allison are hanging in there. They are unable to touch Finn yet but are getting constant updates from the nurses in the NICU and can look at him. HE moves his little feet but is sedated at times so that he doesn't hurt himself by moving.

He is still on the ventilator but does take breaths on his own.

Fight on Finn!
